Going into the 2022 football season, Aggies Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas A&M roster.
Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Jimbo Fisher this season.
Jalen Preston is entering his redshirt senior season at the wide receiver position for Texas A&M as one of the more experienced players on the roster, looking to finally break through the starting lineup in his final season with the team. Coming out of Manvel High School in Manvel, Texas, Preston was a three-year starter on the varsity football team, putting up career totals of 86 receptions for 1,797 yards and 22 receiving touchdowns, with his most productive year coming during his 2017 senior season, recording 42 receptions for 876 yards and 10 touchdown receptions.
Preston also received a number of accolades, including Houston Chronicle Offensive Player of the Year during his 2017 senior season, District 23-5A Overall MVP during his 2016 junior season, as well as District 23-5A Special Teams MVP during his junior season.
After committing to the Aggies on July 29, 2017, Preston appeared in two games during the 2018 season, choosing to redshirt soon after. At the start of the 2019 season, Preston began to see more playing time, mostly on special teams as a kick returner but did end up seeing action in all 13 games this season, with a final stat line of 3 receptions for 36 yards. During the Covid shortened 2020 season, Preston appeared in 10 games, while starting three at receiver, making 7 receptions for 74 yards.
The 2021 season was by far Jalen Preston’s best as an Aggie, playing in all 12 games while making 6 starts, setting personal records throughout the year, and making his biggest impact during the LSU game, making it in the end zone twice in the fourth quarter.
