Jon Wilner suggests Karl Dorrell isn’t a hot seat choice this season

Discussions have come up about which Pac-12 coaches are on the hot seat, if any.

Well, Colorado Buffaloes head coach Karl Dorrell has floated around as one possibility if the Buffs underperform again, which is the outside expectation heading into the 2022 season.

However, Jon Wilner of The Mercury News quickly shut down that theory, and Wilner’s stance should give Dorrell a bit more reassurance that he is in Boulder for at least another season:

That leaves Dorrell, who is entering his third season in Boulder and second without COVID disruption. The situation looks bleak: CU just went 4-8 and fared poorly in the transfer portal. The quarterback situation is muddled, the schedule is brutal, and only the most optimistic fans believe a bowl berth is possible. But Colorado hired Dorrell precisely because of the stability he would provide a program that lost Mel Tucker after one season. If the Buffaloes are 0-12 or 1-11 next season, the administration might have a difficult decision to make. But anything that remotely resembles competence should be enough for CU to stay the course. In other words … We do not envision any Pac-12 coaching changes before, during or after the season unless someone leaves for a better job or Tempe is the source of the tumult.

The Buffs definitely have a tough schedule next season, and SportsPac12 predicted them to win four games in 2022.

But, as it stands right now, it doesn’t look like Dorrell will be walking away during or after the season.
