Trevor Lawrence looking forward to having Travis Etienne back

Trevor Lawrence dealt with a plethora of challenges during his rookie season, but the quarterback has his sights set on an on-field reunion with his former Clemson teammate Travis Etienne.

Playing at Clemson together from 2018 to 2020, Lawrence and Etienne had the fortune of getting drafted in the first round to the same NFL team, the Jacksonville Jaguars. While Lawrence went on to start in all 17 games last year, Etienne remained sidelined due to a Lisfranc injury and didn’t play a single regular season snap with Lawrence.

With the 2022 season approaching and Etienne fully cleared, Lawrence is eager to share the field with the running back once again.

“Obviously, we had some tough injuries last year. Travis is a guy I’ve played with now for three years in college and been on the same team this past year as well,” Lawrence said in an interview with CBS Sports. “That dynamic element that he can bring is going to help us a ton. That explosion, we missed that last year. Obviously, James going down late in the year too really hurt us. Having both of those guys back is going to be great for our offense, and it’s going to be a lot of fun. I’m just excited to see everything come together.”

As a duo at Clemson, the two led the Tigers’ offense to a College Football Playoff National Championship in 2018 and won three consecutive ACC titles. As far as their personal accomplishments, Lawrence was unequivocally one of the greatest college quarterbacks of all time and was a Heisman runner-up in 2020. Meanwhile, Etienne finished his collegiate career as the ACC’s all-time leading rusher with 4,952 yards.

Now in the NFL, Lawrence and Etienne hope to have the same level of success as they did when they donned the orange and white.
