How many millions of households does each non-SEC conference have?

How many millions of households does each non-SEC conference have?

We wrote a story this past week in which we arrived at an inconvenient truth about college sports realignment.

Stanford was valued as having $15 million more worth than Oregon — $45 million to $30 million — in the media rights realm. I personally found that astonishing, and I’m sure Zach Neel was similarly gobsmacked.

Media rights value discussions simply don’t lead in a straight line. They’re not portraying some of the realities we perceive on the ground.

Oregon has been a national title contender for much of the past 12 years in college football, making the national title game twice and making a serious run at the Big One on several other occasions. The Ducks have elite facilities and Phil Knight’s money. This seems to indicate top-tier value, but media industry insiders aren’t seeing the same picture.

At his Substack, John Canzano is looking at the same complicated picture we are studying. He wanted to get more information and context, so he took a deeper dive into the numbers.

Here is what he found:

The Pac-12, once at 19.3 million households, will have only 12.4 million without USC and UCLA in the conference.
