McDermott is in the middle of the pack, with respect to coaching odds. He is tied with New Orleans’ Dennis Allen, Arizona’s Kliff Kingsbury, Kansas City’s Andy Reid, New York Jets’ Robert Saleh, Washington’s Ron Rivera, and Pittsburgh’s Mike Tomin.
It’s important to note that voters often look for coaches who overachieve based on their roster. With McDermott’s team expected to do well, Buffalo would have to put up a franchise-best record to be in consideration.
The best odds focus on coaches who are either new in their position and/or are working to flip the recent history of their franchises. Former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator and current New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll is tied for the best odds at +1300.
