The Denver Broncos announced Monday that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is joining the team’s (pending) new ownership group.
After news of Rice joining the Walton-Penner group was announced, she released the following statement on her Twitter page:
It is an honor to be part of this ownership group. Football has been an integral part of my life since the moment it was introduced to me, and I am thrilled to be a part of the Broncos organization today.
I spent much of my younger years in Denver, so to be able to combine my love of the game with my love for this great city and team is an adventure of a lifetime and a great opportunity.
The new ownership group also includes businesswoman Mellody Hobson, and others might join in the coming weeks.
For the team’s new ownership group to become official, at least 24 of the league’s 32 ownership groups will have to vote in approval at a special owners meeting later this summer.
The Broncos are aiming to have the new group officially in place before the NFL’s regular season begins in September.
