The Chicago Bears are trading for wide receiver N’Keal Harry, adding a new weapon for quarterback Justin Fields. Chicago sent a 2024 seventh-round selection to the New England Patriots in exchange.
Harry, a former first-round selection in 2019, has been disappointing during his first three seasons in the NFL. Harry totaled 57 receptions for 598 yards and four touchdowns during that span. Not exactly what the Patriots expected from a first-round talent.
It became clear that the two sides were headed for a breakup. And Bears general manager Ryan Poles made a low-risk, high-reward move to nab Harry for a seventh-round pick.
Harry is entering the final year of his rookie deal, where he’ll carry a $1.87 million salary cap hit in 2022, per Spotrac. If cut, Harry would carry a $673,937 dead cap hit.
Following the Harry trade, the Bears now have $19.13 million in available cap space, according to Spotrac, which is the fifth-most in the league.
Even if Harry doesn’t pan out, it was an easy move for a team that’s lacking in the wide receiver department — and fans approved of the move. Which is on par with what Poles has done this entire offseason.
