Jamarcus Russell on being called the biggest draft bust

Jamarcus Russell opens up about life in article

When people mention JaMarcus Russell and his football career, one of two comments are made about it: 1. He is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever come out of LSU, and 2. He may be the biggest bust in NFL Draft history.

What does Russell think about that moniker, though? What does he have to say to the people that call him the biggest bust of all time?

A lot of people would assume that he would possibly dispute his case and disagree with the statement. In a recent interview, however, didn’t do that. He actually doubled down. Russell appeared on ‘The Pivot’ and was asked what he thought about being called a bust.

“I must’ve been the best to be the biggest,” he said. “If you’re gonna call me a bust, put ‘the biggest’ on that (expletive).”

Was he the best? Russell was the No. 1 draft pick coming out of college for a reason. In 2006, he threw for 3,129 yards, 28 touchdowns, 8 interceptions and a 68% completion percentage in the SEC. You’ve got to be great to put up numbers like that.

He was drafted No. 1 to the (then) Oakland Raiders, and as we all know, it didn’t work out how he or they wanted it to. He is considered the biggest bust of all time because of how good he was in college.

Was he actually the biggest bust of all time? I’ll leave that argument between him and Ryan Leaf.
