Buffalo Bills secondary led NFL in CPOE

Under head coach Sean McDermott and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, the Bills have been among the top defensive units in the NFL.

When team and player stats reveal some of the consistency and efficiency averages over the course of the season it hasn’t been hard to see why.

NFL Next Gen Stats  shared such a statistic regarding the teams’ defensive line that is an example of this.

The analytics outlet pointed out that the Bills defense linemen led the NFL in completion percentage over expected allowed (CPOE), allowing 8.7% fewer completed passes than was projected by Next Gen’s completion probability projections:

What’s more, it’s the best mark of any team in the Next Gen Stats era.

With players like Matt Milano who has the lowest passer rating allowed since 2017 as well as the edition of Von Miller whose tackles for loss/no gain were the most among edge rushers last season, it’s not hard to envision that percentage possibly improving further.
