Going into the 2022 college football season, Tar Heels Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the North Carolina roster.
Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Mack Brown this season.
Don Chapman comes into the 2022 season as one of UNC’s potential answers to their question mark of a defense. Chapman heads into his senior year with expectations to see the field as much as he did in 2020, where he started 11 games.
The 6-foot-1 defensive back out of San Diego California saw a drop in his time on the field, appearing in just eight games after having a season ending injury. In those eight games he finished with 28 tackles and three pass deflections. Despite a small sample size, Chapman showcased what UNC had hoped for, even recording a team-high seven tackles in the 59-39 victory over Virginia.
Looking ahead, Chapman comes into this season expected to be a big part of the Carolina defense. His experience and ability to play anywhere on the field gives him the edge to help UNC bring up their 94th total ranked defense.
Let’s look at our profile for Don Chapman.
