Giants’ Saquon Barkley among NFL’s most overrated players

Former New York Giants defensive lineman and Super Bowl XLVI champion, Chris Canty, recently made waves by releasing his list of the NFL’s top five most overrated players.

What really stirred things up was who topped Canty’s list: Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

Many thought Canty might be partial to the Cowboys having spent four seasons in Arlington, but he wasn’t. And he didn’t go soft on the Giants, either, listing running back Saquon Barkley among the five.

Canty’s criticism is just the latest in a wave of anti-Barkley sentiment. An anonymous NFL assistant coach recently shredded the former first-round pick, claiming Barkley has no idea how to play the running back position.

“I’m down on him — he still doesn’t know how to play running back enough,” the coach told ESPN. “He’s a bouncer. He wants every run to be a home run. He’s going to have to learn that 4-yard runs in this league are good, instead of stopping, cutting it back and losing 2. And he gets his ass kicked in protection.”

Another NFL Network analyst also suggested Barkley no longer belongs to the “superstars club.”

But Barkley is undeterred. He remains confident in himself and expects to have a bounce-back season in 2022. He also wants his critics to remain on that side of things when he eventually turns it around.

“I think I said it before, when the tables turn, just make sure you’re on the side of that table. Just stay on that side,” Barkley told reporters in June.

Barkley will join the rest of his teammates on July 26 when he reports for training camp ahead of what he feels will be a redemption season.
