UNC Football 2022 Player Profile: No. 25 Kaimon Rucker

Going into the 2022 college football season, Tar Heels Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the North Carolina roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Mack Brown this season.

Kaimon Rucker comes into the 2022 season on the verge of a breakout season after a consistent sophomore year. Rucker was the perfect fill-in spot for the defensive line, playing in all 13 games, while starting in 10 of them.

In those 13 games, Rucker wrecked havoc for the opposing offensive line, tying for second most sacks (4) on the season. Rucker’s 5.5 tackles for loss also was tied for third most on the team. His ability to contain the run and rush the QB was highlighted throughout the season with his best game of the season coming against the Virginia Cavaliers, where he had five tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble.

Looking ahead, Rucker should see another uptick in time spent on the field with expectations of starting all 13 games this season. Heading into his junior year, this could be when it all clicks and the small glimpses of explosions become more of an every down situation.

Let’s look at our profile for Kaimon Rucker.

Depth Chart Overview

As it stands, the three-star defensive end should have a memorable year with his name echoing throughout Keenan after big plays. Rucker had a solid work load last season with 393 total snaps and showed promise throughout, becoming a wrecking ball as an outside linebacker. Right now Rucker’s starting job is secured whether he’s on the edge rushing the QB or playing back in coverage, his impact should be felt.
