Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz joins the Big Ten Network to preview 2022

After previewing the Hawkeyes’ upcoming college football season at the podium during 2022 Big Ten Media Days, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz strolled over and chatted with the Big Ten Network TV hosts.

Ferentz joined the Big Ten Network’s Dave Revsine, Gerry Dinardo and Joshua Perry to touch on a number of subjects. Below is a look at everything Ferentz had to say with the crew.

Highlight of the 2021 season

“To me, I just love how our team handled the challenges that came up and certainly got off to a good start. We were probably a little loftier in the rankings than we deserved when we were 6-0, and then had two hard weeks, and actually three because we had a bye week in between, which couldn’t come at a worse time. Just the way the guys fought through that and nothing came easy after that. We were able to win four games down the stretch, but each and every one of them came hard. Just proud of the way the guys persevered,” Ferentz said.

His contract extension through the 2029 season and what keeps him energized

“So, you’re talking about 2029, I’m trying to make it to August 29 right now. I’ll be happy with that. Maybe July 29. I think the thing about it, the players haven’t changed—a lot of things are changing—but the players haven’t changed, the game hasn’t changed, the people you get to work with are just phenomenal.

“The thing that’s interesting is the world does change and a lot of things come at you and a lot of things to consider and we certainly have a record amount right now, but, to me it’s a little bit stimulating and you’re always learning. Until you quit getting anxious, until you quit getting nervous and quit getting excited, I don’t know why I’d stop. You know, my wife gave me a hall pass after the pandemic, she said to keep going for a while. I think we had a little too much…
