At one point in time the Irish and Florida running back Richard Young looked like they could be a match. An official visit by Young in June made the possibility of Notre Dame landing the top rated running back in the country a legit possibility.
The door didn’t completely close when Young announced his top three, leaving Notre Dame off it, young men change their minds all the time. The door slammed closed today however, as Young made it official and announced his verbal commitment to Alabama, the same southern school that is trying to flip Irish commit Keon Keeley.
What is not known is what Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame will do next. Do they continue to recruit Young until signing day? How good of a chance do they have at flipping Dylan Edwards from Kansas State after offering and getting him on campus this week?
Or do they go after other prospects or are they content with the current commit Jayden Limar? Time will tell what Notre Dame’s next steps are.
