The Washington Commanders were back on the practice fields of Ashburn for day three of training camp Friday. After a dominant performance by the defense Thursday, Washington’s offense fared better Friday. However, that’s not to say the defense didn’t have a good day.
As for the biggest news from day three, it was Ron Rivera’s appearance on the “Sports Junkies,” where he confirmed defensive end Chase Young would miss some time.
What else happened in Ashburn Friday?
Here are six takeaways from day three of Commanders’ training camp.
Chase Young out for at least Week 1

Chase Young hasn’t participated in training camp yet as he is still recovering from knee surgery. That didn’t prevent Young from being the story of the day — until Ryan Kerrigan’s retirement.
When Rivera said Young would miss a little bit of time on the “Junkies” Friday, it led to more questions about Young’s status after practice. Rivera was asked if he believed Young would start the season on the PUP list.
“Going into the season, yes,” Rivera said. “He will not play the first game. I’m gonna put it that way. I’m not gonna say he’s gonna start on PUP. He will not be ready for the first game.”
There you have it, folks. Young is out for at least Week 1.
Better day for Carson Wentz

Washington quarterback Carson Wentz wasn’t sharp on the first two days of training camp. Of course, fans panicked, and Indianapolis and Philadelphia fans said “I told you so.”
It wasn’t as if Wentz was horrible; he didn’t have a lot of help Thursday.
On Friday, he was much sharper.

There were a lot of expectations on rookie wide receiver Dyami Brown in 2021. Unfortunately, Brown’s season didn’t go as expected, and the Commanders added first-round pick Jahan Dotson this offseason.
