One of the hallmarks of the approaching start of the college football season is the annual publication of anonymous coaches talking about the other teams in their conference. Athlon Sports talked with anonymous coaches across the Big Ten to get their thoughts on the other teams in the league. The collected quotes about the 2022 Nebraska Cornhuskers show a team that is filled with talent and skill across multiple position groups but fails to perform on the field.
It’s clear that the other coaches in the conference recognize the talent on the roster but also that the program has underachieved for the last several seasons under head coach Scott Frost. There’s also an understanding that the new offense may be what the team was looking for. However, with a scheme focused on the passing game, there is still concern that the offense may put too much pressure on the defense without the ability to run between the tackles consistently. That has been a problem with the Cornhuskers well before Scott Frost arrived, and it’s unfortunately continued into his tenure.
The anonymous coaches appear to have the same skepticism about Nebraska Football that most of the fanbase appears to hold heading into the start of the 2022 campaign. However, there’s a clear consensus growing that more than the running or the transfer portal, Scott Frost needs wins and that without wins this season, he could be looking for a new job outside the Lincoln area at year’s end.
