Oregon’s newest face in the quarterback room, Bo Nix, spoke to the press at length during the Ducks’ annual media day two days before fall practices get underway.
Nix is a senior transfer from Auburn where he looks to have one more chance to try and reach the College Football Playoff. That was one of many reasons why he chose to come out West and put on the green and yellow.
In one of the more poignant moments that came out of Wednesday’s gathering, Nix said that he didn’t even think one second about not winning the quarterback job.
“Why would I think about failure,” Nix quipped at the suggestion he might not win the QB1 job and have a clipboard in his hand when Oregon travels to Atlanta to face the defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs on Sept. 3.
Nix had plenty of other thoughts in his near 16-minute session with the local media.
The offseason
Nix’s offseason was quite the unusual one even by today’s standards.
Obviously, it’s been a really enjoyable off-season. Not many college football players get to be married. I’m excited about that. It’s been great. It’s been very special, especially getting to go back and see our families. It’s really good being able to come home this summer and have someone to be with. Obviously, it’s been a long six months from January to June but it prepared me and gave me a lot of good time with my teammates. It’s been a good long offseason. I feel it’s been the longest of my career.
Winning the QB1 job and pushing the younger QBs as well
Nix’s No. 1 goal is to be the starter on Sept. 3, but he also sees a responsibility to push Ty Thompson and Jay Butterfield along as well.
