CB Kendall Fuller is a team leader

Kendal Fuller has become more of a leader for the Washington Commanders.

Fuller credits his defensive backs coach at Virginia Tech, Torrian Gray, as setting a standard of what it took and what it meant to be successful as part of the Hokies defense.

Entering his 7th NFL season, Fuller says he has usually come to the Ashburn facilities on Tuesday to get most of his film work accomplished. He will also watch some film at home but expressed he does like Tuesdays to come and get a jump on Washington’s next opponent.

Fuller likes that everyone was present and working at OTAs, believing the defense can be better in 2022. “We’ve been talking about taking pride and not making the same mistakes twice. It’s up to how hard we work and how hard we make each day count when we are out here. That is something we are working toward every day.”

The former Kansas City Chief (2018-19) is realistic, saying he certainly understands that during the course of an NFL season there are going to be ups and downs, times things are going well, and times they are not. He spoke of needing the mentality to fight yourself out of a hole as a team and as a unit.

The former slot corner seems to now be settling in outside as Benjamin St- Juste has been moved to the slot corner role. Fuller spoke highly of St-Juste, saying he uses his strengths, his size, and his length well in the slot.

When asked about working against rookie receiver Jahan Dotson, Fuller was certainly not at a loss for praise for the Penn State rookie drafted 16th overall. “He’s just a pro, man. Ever since day one he just carries himself like a pro. He is confident he wants to learn. He knows his abilities. He knows he can go out there and make plays. That is something we are going to need him to do.”

“You can just see each day he is steady. People talk a lot about Ryan Kerrigan being steady, always being there, always being a pro. You can see that starting off early from him (Dotson). He is a pro, he is coming out here to work every day. He doesn’t complain; he just comes to work. He brings his lunch pale to work; so it is something that has been good for us.”
