Dan Lanning talks about Ducks’ prep for spring game

The 2022 fall football season is officially underway in Eugene.

The Oregon Ducks got out on the practice field at long last on Friday afternoon, starting what will be a month-long prep for their first game of the season against the defending champion Georgia Bulldogs.

We saw a good glimpse of what the new era of Duck football would look like earlier this year during the spring season,  but now it’s time to get down to business. Health matters, depth charts matter, and all of the little things need to be taken care of.

After the first practice on the season on Friday, media members got a chance to talk to head coach Dan Lanning and hear how things went. Here’s a transcript of what he said:

Opening Statement

Lanning: “Good first day, nowhere near where we need to be for game one. But luckily we’re not playing game one yet. A lot of work to do, guys brought good energy, definitely embracing the strain and the opportunity to get better. 1% is what we’re looking for in each and everything that we do. So where can we find those percentage points to get a little bit better.”

Question: How nice is it going into a training camp with a relatively healthy roster?

Lanning: “We’re gonna play with the guys that are here and available. We have a lot of those right now which is good. Gives us an opportunity to practice the way we want to practice. Some two spot drills where instead of having 11 on 11 guys going against each other where you’re getting 22 people better. You got two fields going and you can get 44 people better — 88 when you start going ones and twos and threes and fours and young guys. So being healthy is obviously a real big benefit. For us to continue to push and be available.”
