Auburn Football: Previewing the quarterback position

With Bo Nix at Oregon, Auburn has its first true quarterback battle since Nix won the job in 2019.

Auburn has four quarterbacks battling for the starting spot and each brings something different to the table. Returning starter tj Finley has experience in the system, Oregon transfer Robby Ashford is a gifted athlete who can run, Texas A&M transfer Zach Calzada has SEC starting experience, and true freshman Holden Geriner is an intriguing prospect.

It will be important for head coach Bryan Harsin and offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau to pick the right option entering the season as the Tigers need to win early to put their tumultuous offseason behind them.

Entering fall camp fully healthy after a shoulder injury limited his spring Calzada has a great shot to win the starting job. The former Texas A&M Aggie started 10 games last season and completed 184-327 passes for 2,185 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Something that Auburn fans will surely love what his performance against Alabama, when he completed 21-31 passes for 285 yards and three touchdowns with one interception to upset the Crimson Tide. While he needs to become more consistent he ended last year playing his best football and is now healthy. He still has to go out and win the job but Calzada is the clear favorite.
