The New York Giants released their unofficial depth chart ahead of Thursday’s preseason game against the New England Patriots.
It’s important to note that these early-preseason depth charts mean very little. They’re more about giving fans a structure and information so that they’re able to follow along throughout the course of the game.
Still, they do provide a slight indication into who is leading what training camp battle. And while they are obviously subject to change, they generate quite a bit of attention.
Here are seven quick takeaways from the Giants’ unofficial depth chart.
Daniel Jones: QB1

Daniel Jones will start at quarterback for the Giants in 2022 no matter how much screeching takes place. There’s not going to be a trade for Jimmy Garoppolo and Tyrod Taylor taking a single first-team rep on Monday means literally nothing.
Still, this is likely to come as a surprise to many who have an odd disdain for Jones.
Gary Brightwell: RB3

Second-year running back Gary Brightwell is listed third on the team’s initial depth chart even though Antonio Williams has seen most of the third-team snaps. However, Brightwell has flashed at several points this summer and provides terrific value on special teams.
Darius Slayton: WR4

One of the few legitimate surprises on the Giants’ unofficial depth chart is Darius Slayton being listed as WR4. He’s the primary backup to both Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney despite spending most of his time with the third-team this summer.
Daniel Bellinger: TE1

Even before the Giants reported for training camp, it was clear that rookie Daniel Bellinger was destined for the starting tight end role. And with veteran Ricky Seals-Jones not practicing this summer, Bellinger now appears to have a stranglehold on the job.
Tae Crowder: WILL

Tae Crowder is currently listed as the starter at WILL alongside Blake Martinez and edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux but that is very much subject to change. The Giants have been transparent about the battle taking place at the linebacker position(s).
