Projecting the Sooners offensive depth chart

Fall camp is underway, and the season opener with the UTEP Miners is under nearly three weeks away. The Oklahoma Sooners enter the season with something to prove after failing to reach the Big 12 title game and undergoing a massive transition over the offseason.

Brent Venables and his coaching staff attacked the transfer portal to help mitigate the losses they experienced and brought in some veterans with a ton of snaps to help bolster the roster in year one.

While Oklahoma experienced change, the expectations remain the same as the Sooners are projected to contend for the Big 12 title and were the highest-ranked Big 12 team in the preseason USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll, coming in at No. 9.

With the 2022 season right around the corner, let’s take a stab at projecting what the offensive depth chart could look like week one vs. UTEP.

Quarterback

Starter: Dillon Gabriel

The Oklahoma Sooners have made no bones about who the starting quarterback will be for the 2022 season. It’s Dillon Gabriel.

Since coming over from UCF with a stop at UCLA along the way, Gabriel has quickly become one of the leaders on this team. In addition to being a teacher of Lebby’s offense to the rest of the squad, the offensive coordinator shared how Gabriel has gone about building relationships with the rest of the team.

“Yeah, I think the thing that he’s done has been exactly who he is,” Lebby shared at OU media day. “He’s been very intentional on creating relationships and making sure that everybody in the locker room knows who he is as a person.
