Tigers have a major test in Notre Dame

The 2022 college football season is a big one for Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney, and the Tigers as the team looks to reclaim its spot as one of the best teams in the country.

As usual, the Tigers will play a stiff ACC schedule that includes marquee matchups against North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Louisville, and more of the ACC’s top teams. The most important game, however, looks like a non-conference matchup against the always exciting Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Playing in South Bend, Indiana, on Nov. 5, Clemson will take on Notre Dame in a game with a lot on the line. Both teams project to be playoff contenders, with Clemson ranking number four and Notre Dame number five in the preseason coaches poll.

According to Paul Myerberg of USA Today, Clemson’s matchup with Notre Dame is one of the ten best non-conference games of the season.

After two memorable meetings in 2020, these two national powers reunite for a late-season matchup that could easily send the loser hurtling out of College Football Playoff contention and boost the winner into a permanent spot in the top four. One thing of note: While both teams will be coming off a game against Syracuse, the Tigers will have an extra week to prepare for the Irish. They’ll also remember losing to the Fighting Irish in the same venue two years ago.

Staring QB DJ Uiagalelei has experience against the Fighting Irish and if he can play up to those standards, the Tigers should be in a good position. Filling in for Trevor Lawrence in the first meeting in 2020, Uiagalelei had the best statistical performance of his career. He completed 65.9% of his passes for 439 yards and two touchdowns, all while the team rushed for a combined 34 yards on 33 attempts.

The game will be a massive test for both teams as with big aspirations heading into the season. Depending on how the season leading up to this game shakes out, we could be in for a big one.
