A former Nebraska quarterback is following in the footsteps of some of the former Cornhuskers who came before him and will be trading in his helmet for a headset. Tommy Armstrong Jr. will be the new offensive coordinator for Lincoln North Star High School for the upcoming season under first-year head coach James Thompson. The Gulfport, Mississippi native played for the Cornhuskers from 2012-2016, starting 44 games, the most ever by a Husker QB.
Throughout four seasons, Armstrong Jr. rewrote the Nebraska passing record book and ended his career as the program leader in career passing yards (8,871 yards), career completions (625), career touchdown passes (67), and total career offense (10,690). As a four-year starter, he finished his career with a record of 37-7 as a starter. Armstrong was undrafted upon his career ending with the Big Red but was invited to training camp for the Minnesota Vikings as a safety, a position he had also played in high school, but was waived before the conclusion of summer camp.
Armstrong will not be alone in former Huskers joining the Navigators’ football program as former receiver Alonzo Moore will join Armstrong as a volunteer assistant coach.
