Three questions why Nebraska is a team on the rise

We are only 15 days away from the kickoff of the 2022 college football season. The Nebraska Cornhuskers will kick off their season on August 27th in Dublin, Ireland. ESPN analyst thinks the Huskers are one of three teams on the rise heading into the season. In his latest release of Always College Football, Greg McElroy asks, “Why Tennessee, Nebraska & Louisville are on the rise Always College Football.

The former National Championship quarterback believes that head coach Scott Frost may have made the moves necessary during the offseason to put Nebraska in a spot to improve for the upcoming campaign. Below are three questions that McElroy says need to be answered to determine Nebraska’s season in 2022. As you can expect, the main focus will be the new faces in the quarterback room, the new members of the coaching staff, and if Nebraska can improve in the trenches.

A lot of people seem to think this is a reach for me but I like them this year. Maybe I’m crazy and I’ll certainly eat crow if they don’t take the next step… I think this team is poised after what they did last year to make a significant step forward.

How does the new offensive staff come together?

It’s been documented, Mark Whipple, the new offensive coordinator comes over from Pitt. Pat Narduzzi (Pitt Head Coach) comes out just a couple of weeks ago and says “he didn’t want to run the football, we want to run the football…”

… if you look at the Big Ten numbers against the run, it’s very difficult to run in the Big Ten… it’s hard to run the ball in the Big Ten. So what do you do? Hire a coordinator that’s pretty good at finding completions, finding yards through the air. That’s what Mark Whipple is.
