Who impressed in preseason Week 1?

The Kansas City Chiefs are officially into the new year after finishing their first preseason game on Saturday with a 19-14 loss to the Chicago Bears.

The final result wasn’t the goal of the preseason tune-up, but instead, the performances on the field will carry much more weight. Several players helped and hurt themselves as training camp carries on and the first wave of roster cuts happens next week.

The Chiefs All-Pro quarterback opened the year with a strong performance during his brief time in the game. Mahomes was sharp, hitting his receivers in stride on the opening drive and ending with a five-yard touchdown pass to tight end Blake Bell. Mahomes finished his impressive drive 6-of-7 for 60 yards and one touchdown in just 11 plays.

He finished with an explosive sack that appeared to be a statement of his highly discussed motor, he also had two more quarterback hits, a tackle for loss and tackle on the day.

Watson has continued to show why he’s worthy of a roster spot and playing time in the offense during the regular season. He used the momentum built in training camp and showcased his ability on Saturday against the Bears, becoming the primary receiver during his stint on the field. Watson finished with a team-leading five catches for 45 yards and a touchdown.

Stock Down: Ronald Jones

The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting running back hasn’t seemed comfortable or swift in the Chiefs offense since signing in the offseason. The stat line in Chicago during his time on the field saw the veteran only gain one yard on four carries. He also surrendered a sack in pass protection on a play where he didn’t even get a hand on the player he was charged with…
