Four-star CB Jordan Matthews announces commitment to Tennessee

The Longhorns missed out on an elite prospect out of Louisiana.

Four-star cornerback Jordan Matthews announced his commitment to Tennessee on Monday. The Baton Rouge product is rated the No. 9 overall prospect in the state and the No. 15 cornerback in the country for the 2023 cycle, according to 247Sports composite rankings.

The news comes as a surprise considering Texas was viewed as the favorite in his recruitment. Tennessee ultimately won out over Texas and Michigan.

Here’s what 247Sports recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks had to say about Matthews in his scouting report.

Physical tools and functional athleticism should provide for versatility across varying coverage types. Makes an effort to shrink the window and pester at the catch point.

Excellent multi-sport context thanks to strong track data. Top five finisher as a junior in Louisiana 5A in the 100 and 200 meters with PRs of 10.66 and 21.29, respectively.

The Longhorns currently have the No. 3 recruiting class in the country with 22 total commits.
