Seahawks Coby Bryant Shines in Seahawks Preseason Loss to Bears

Last week, Bryant went through some growing pains in his preseason debut, giving up a touchdown to Steelers rookie wideout George Pickens. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll discussed the trials and tribulations Bryant would continue to face after the game in Pittsburgh.

“Welcome to the NFL. He made some mistakes, touchdown pass,” Carroll said last week. “Coby got his shot, and his guy does a great job in holding him off and makes a touchdown catch. He’s right on the guy. Welcome to the league.”

Despite the Seahawks struggling throughout Thursday’s loss, Carroll took time to praise his rookie corner.

“He was really aggressive,” said Carroll “You can see the difference. He played at a different level of some of the other guys, running and hitting and making tackles. He’s a football player. We’re getting that information on this guy. He’s a ball player.”

Bryant discussed his thought process over the course of the week and coming into the game.

“The biggest thing is to progress each week, learn from your mistakes from Week 1, and go out and execute,” he said.

With Seahawks cornerback Michael Jackson and fellow rookie Tariq Woolen playing outside, Bryant saw plenty of snaps inside at nickel corner against the Bears.

Adjustments are the name of the game, and Bryant has taken the opportunity at full stride, despite it being uncharted waters.

“No, I never played nickel, but that obviously shows how much they trust me and respect my knowledge for the game,” said Bryant. “I love nickel, I love corner too, and I just love competing and challenging myself. I feel like nickel is a lot more thinking and seeing like three and whatever the case may be. You get a chance to make a lot of tackles as well too, and blitz, so I love it.”

The Seahawks head back on the road for week 3 of the preseason, heading to Arlington to face the Dallas Cowboys. With full support from his team and plenty of self-confidence and focus, the sky’s the limit for Bryant. One game at a time.
