The USC skeptics, at ESPN and elsewhere, continue to emerge

Lincoln Riley doesn’t shy away from big expectations at USC

More pundits, more skepticism of USC, more cautiousness toward Lincoln Riley and his roster overhaul.

USC has the big names on its roster, but ESPN analyst Sam Acho simply isn’t convinced it will work in Year 1. He viewed USC as the most overrated team which appears in the top 25 of the preseason Associated Press college football poll.

Our friends at Rutgers Wire gathered Acho’s comments about the Trojans.

“I’m gonna go with USC at No. 14. Last year there were 4-8, the lowest win total since 1991. And yes, I understand Caleb Williams is at the helm and Jordan Addison, the Biletnikoff winner is at receiver,” Acho said on ESPN this week.

“And yes, Lincoln Riley is now their head coach, but at the same time, they have over 40 new players on their team as freshmen and transfers. I’ve talked to Lincoln Riley and Caleb Williams, at their PAC 12 media day and they said there’s going to be a lot of new faces and so I don’t think there’ll be able to overcome the defensive deficiencies that they had last year overnight. Yes, you have star power at offense, but defensively there are many, many, many question marks.”
