2-round forecast heading into college football season

Top prospects to watch this college football season

Starting this week, there will be college football every weekend until January.

It’s a beautiful thing.

The NFL regular season is also drawing near, with just one week of preseason games remaining before the real thing arrives early next month.

Next year’s NFL draft class should be loaded with tons of talent on both sides of the ball, with plenty of stars we’ll get to watch shine on Saturdays before they take their talents to Sundays (and Mondays and Thursdays).

As both levels prepare for the upcoming season, here’s an early look at how the first two rounds of the 2023 NFL draft could turn out:

*NOTE: The Miami Dolphins forfeited their first-round pick in next year’s draft as a result of the NFL’s investigation into tampering violations.

1. Houston Texans | Alabama EDGE Will Anderson

Even if the Texans end up with this pick, it might not be the fault of Davis Mills, who has shown promise as their potential franchise quarterback. Don’t be surprised if a defensively minded head coach like Lovie Smith opts for the best overall player in the draft, and the most dominant edge rusher in the nation.

2. Atlanta Falcons | Georgia DL Jalen Carter

The Falcons may have landed their quarterback of the future in Desmond Ridder, which should free them up to take the best available player on the board, regardless of position. After landing a pair of promising edge rushers in this year’s draft, a disruptive interior force like Carter would be an ideal addition.

3. Seattle Seahawks | Ohio State QB C.J. Stroud

The Seahawks don’t have a starting-caliber quarterback on their roster after trading away Russell Wilson, and finding one will be their top priority next offseason. This would be the ideal scenario, with no quarterbacks off the board yet….
