Clemson Tigers Snapshot Profile: No. 74 Marcus Tate

Heading into the 2022 season, ClemsonWire will look at multiple players on the Clemson football roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school and what role they will play for head coach Dabo Swinney this season.

For this profile, we will take a closer look at offensive lineman Marcus Tate.

Tate enters his sophomore season in 2022 following an impressive first year with the Tigers where he started eight of Clemson’s 13 games, playing 627 snaps in his rookie season.

With his start and collegiate debut in the Tigers season opener versus Georgia last season, Tate became just the third Clemson true freshman offensive lineman to start a season opener, joining the likes of Clemson greats in James Farr and Mitch Hyatt.

Here’s a snapshot look at Marcus Tate.

Depth Chart Overview

Following his strong freshman campaign in 2021, Marcus Tate enters his second season with the Tigers as a favorable starter at left guard this fall.

With Clemson’s offensive front plagued by injuries for most of the 2021 season, the Florida native brought much needed versatility to the Tigers o-line, filling in for guys like Will Putnam, Mason Trotter, Hunter Rayburn and Matt Bockhorst.

Now with Rayburn and Bockhorst moving on after last season, Tate has the opportunity to take over the starting role at left guard in 2022.
