Whether the Oregon coaching staff will say it or not, fall camp is now behind us. It’s game week for the Ducks.
Media members are no longer able to watch practices, and the focus starts to turn to Georgia, who the Ducks will face off against in less than 10 days. There won’t be a scrimmage held inside Autzen Stadium on Saturday, but Oregon is hard at work prepping for the defending national champions.
On Thursday afternoon, media members got a chance to talk to head coach Dan Lanning to discuss where is team is at this point in fall camp, and where they go from here. Here are some of the most notable quotes from that media session:
QB Decision
Question: Have you guys made a decision about the starting quarterback?
Lanning: “I’m not telling you.”
Good Practice
“I think we’ve had good practices, but we’re nowhere near where we need to be.
What made today a good practice?
Lanning: “Guys came out here and worked. It’s interesting when you take the pads off. Today was a spiders practice for us, so you feel like that might be a lag, but guys still hit some high speeds. We were able to do some teach periods where we traded and get some of these looks that we’re going to get in season and a little bit different from what we see from each other.”
Evaluating Starters
Q: How do you go about evaluating players and ultimately picking starters?
Lanning: “Everyday evaluation. I mean, we chart everything, we watch every single period. Again, the only reason I’m not really talking about that with you guys, I don’t know why that’s an advantage for us. If I felt like it was an advantage, I would tell you guys.”
