Death, taxes, and Nebraska finding a way to lose a one-possession game.
It appears that the Huskers have not recovered from last year’s woes, where they went 3-9, having lost every game (but the Ohio State loss) by one-score, and even that one against the Buckeyes was a winnable game for Scott Frost’s team.
One of Nebraska’s sole wins of 2021 was an absolute drubbing of Northwestern, and the season started anew as the Huskers played again in Week 0, this time taking on the Wildcats in Dublin, Ireland. Last year, the Huskers were surprised by a very mediocre Illinois team in Week 0, but would history repeat itself in 2022?
Nebraska looked dominant to start the game, but after going up by 11 early in the second-half, Frost elected to go for an onside kick. Northwestern recovered and scored, cutting the lead to just four. Texas transfer quarterback Casey Thompson lost much of his first-half mojo, as Nebraska, even with new faces, managed to melt down all the same, losing to Northwestern, 31-28.
Of course, the media had a field day with the loss, mocking the former UCF coach and his team in Lincoln for putting the same ole Huskers on the field. Check out some of the best tweets below.
