10 best Bears players who aren’t going to make the 53-man roster

30 Most Important Bears of 2022: No. 22 Tavon Young

With the final roster cut deadline upon us, the Chicago Bears have to make some tough decisions as they narrow their roster from 80 to 53 players, which means there will be some good players cut by 3 p.m. CT today.

A handful of players have impressed throughout training camp and preseason, but that’s not always enough to earn a roster spot, especially with a ton of established depth at certain positions.

With that in mind, here are the best players who probably won’t make the initial 53-man roster.

After six years in Baltimore, and at one time earning the title of highest paid slot cornerback, Tavon Young will be released. After suffering three different season-ending injuries in Baltimore, it appears the veteran corner still can’t get healthy, spending most of his time on the Bears rehabbing.

WR Tajae Sharpe

A former fifth-round pick that had a great rookie season for the Tennessee Titans, Tajae Sharpe has bounced around since leaving Tennessee in 2019. He’s made stops in Minnesota, Atlanta, and Kansas City. Sharpe will be cut with a crowded receiver room and no special teams ability.

CB Duke Shelley

Duke Shelley is the odd man out. The cornerback room has become crowded, and he’s more expensive than other options like Thomas Graham. However, Graham has been injured most of the year, which could save Shelley from becoming a free agent.

DT Mike Pennel Jr.

Mike Pennel is back with the team after being released in 2021 with an injury settlement. It’s hard to find room for Pennel to get snaps behind Angelo Blackson, Justin Jones, and Khyiris Tonga. He’ll be looking for a new team after tomorrow.

DE Charles Snowden

It’s hard to see where Snowden fits on the roster. He spent most of last year on the practice squad, and the team signed defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad and drafted rookie Dominique Robinson. Those moves likely pushed Snowden into the world of free agency or the practice squad.
