Free beer distributed during Dublin game

Scott Frost’s decision to try an onside kick up 11 in last Saturday’s loss to Northwestern wasn’t the only viral moment of the weekend for Nebraska fans. Free beer was given to the spectators at Aviva Stadium after an issue from the payment provider crashed, leaving the venue unable to process credit and debit card transactions. That led to some quick-thinking employees deciding to keep food and beverage operations up and running. That decision saw free beer distributed for about two hours during the game.

A statement from the sports and hospitality cater Levy praised their employees for finding a solution to an unpleasant problem on gameday.

“Our team at Aviva Stadium were extremely quick to ensure that the fan experience was upheld and food and beverage kiosks were kept open serving customers for the entirety of this period. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this caused customers and would like to thank our employees at Aviva Stadium for the spirit they showed in keeping everything going.”

In my career of covering sports, I can honestly say I don’t remember anything like this having happened before. And I have to say that the fans did a pretty good job of keeping themselves entertained.
