Rejoice, college football fans! The first full slate of action is upon us.
The No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs begin their title defense against the No. 11 Oregon Ducks, and the No. 5 Notre Dame Fighting Irish start the Marcus Freeman era against the No. 2-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. There’s also some HBCU rivalry action as the Howard Bison battle the Hampton Pirates and the North Carolina A&T Aggies face North Carolina Central Eagles.
Another exciting aspect of college football is the uniforms. Several squads have pulled out exceptional gear to start the season.
The West Virginia Mountaineers paid tribute to their state and an iconic song with their Week 1 threads. The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the UCF Knights unveiled striking new sets and some teams honored their past with vintage uniforms.
Here are some of the best looks from Week 1 in college football:
Country Roads
On Thursday, the Mountaineers donned their “Country Roads” set against the Pittsburgh Panthers in the Backyard Brawl. The shoulders of the jersey feature a roadmap of I-79 and various roads in West Virginia. In addition, the helmet decal is the shape of West Virginia with the team’s logo inside it.
The nickname for this ensemble is inspired by the John Denver song “Country Roads.” An unofficial theme song for the state, the country classic has been played at every WVU home game since 1972.

#TealNation
The Chanticleers will wear new threads in their season opener against the Army Black Knights on Saturday. They will sport jerseys and pants in their stunning teal color, a nod to Coastal Carolina uniforms of the past. The vibrancy of the jersey contrasts nicely against the black helmet.
On Saturday, the tradition continues⏳
