USA TODAY Sports lists Pac-12 Conference as a Week 1 disappointment

After an extremely busy offseason, new beginnings were a common theme across college football during Week 1. But for the Pac-12, its shaky showing was very similar to what we saw last year.

Besides the CU Buffs’ 38-13 loss to TCU, the No. 11 Oregon Ducks were blown out by defending national champs No. 3 Georgia and Cam Rising’s late interception was a tough ending for No. 7 Utah against Florida — although I’d say the Utes’ loss isn’t worth sounding off any alarms in Salt Lake City.

When the final whistle blew for Week 1 (except for Sunday’s Florida State-LSU matchup), Paul Myerberg of USA TODAY Sports listed a few winners and losers from around college football. The Pac-12 Conference in its entirety was unfortunately on the brunt end:

It took one week to reinforce how the Pac-12 is a nonfactor. Oregon was walloped. Preseason favorite Utah couldn’t get past Florida. With both preseason frontrunners already holding a loss, who will carry the flag for the conference? USC? UCLA, which beat Bowling Green? Arizona? The Wildcats pulled off one of the shocking results of the day by beating San Diego State 38-20. Oregon State, Stanford, Washington? Just like with Georgia, it’s a new year and the same story for the Pac-12.
