Watch (and get goosebumps) as Chris Carlin calls Salaam’s touchdown

The call on the radio was electric, but to see Chris Carlin and the radio booth react to the winning touchdown for Rutgers football on Saturday is certainly a neat moment.

Carlin, the longtime voice of Rutgers football, had the call as redshirt freshman Al-Shadee Salaam ran 23 yards past a tired Boston College defense to tie the game at 21-21. The ensuing extra point gave Rutgers a win in their season opener.

It was a 12-play drive where all 96 yards came on the ground from either quarterback Gavin Wimsatt or the running backs.

Carlin is looking through his binoculars.

“Wimsatt, hands it off. Salaam.”

Carlin’s voice rises slightly in excitement.

“15-10.”

Carlin’s voice grows louder and more excited.

“Bounces outside to the 5 – and he’s in for the Rutgers touchdown!”

Others in the radio broadcast boost begin to celebrate the tying of the ball game as Paul Shrager, the radio engineer for the program’s broadcasts doesn’t even flinch in the background as he adjusts the microphone levels.

“Al-Shadee Salaam punches it in with 2:43 left on a 97-yard drive.”
