Freshman Has One Of Top Cal Debuts In School’s History In Last Saturday’s Victory Over UC Davis
BERKELEY – Jaydn Ott earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors for his performance in his Cal debut in a 34-13 season-opening home victory over UC Davis last Saturday at FTX Field at California Memorial Stadium. Ott is the first Cal player to be honored with a Pac-12 weekly honor in 2022 and follows the Golden Bears’ two most recent selections when Ben Coleman (Offensive Lineman) and Lu-Magia Hearns III (Freshman) were conference Players of the Week in a 41-11 win over Stanford in the 2021 Big Game.

— Ott rushed for 104 yards on 17 carries and added 26 yards receiving on two receptions including one touchdown in Saturday’s win over UC Davis
— Ott became the first player to rush for 100 yards or more in his Cal debut since then redshirt freshman Shane Vereen rushed for 101 yards on nine carries in a 38-31 home win over Michigan State in the team’s season-opening game against Michigan State on August 30, 2008
— Ott’s 130 yards from scrimmage (rushing and receiving) against UC Davis were the most by a player in his Cal debut since Keenan Allen had 158 yards from scrimmage (38 rushing, 120 receiving) in his Cal debut against UC Davis on Sept. 4, 2010
— A preseason All-Pac-12 fourth-team selection by Phil Steele and a member of the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Watch List both announced prior to his 2022 freshman campaign
— Played 23 prep games over two seasons at Norco High School as a 2018 freshman and 2021 senior
— Rushed for 2236 yards and 30 touchdowns as a prep on 265 carries for averages of 97.2 yards per game rushing with 12 100-yard rushing games and 8.4 yards per carry, while adding 17 receptions for 228 yards and one touchdown, as well as one kick return for 16 yards for a total of 2480 all-purpose yards
