The Auburn Tigers are riding high following a 42-16 win over Mercer last Saturday.
In Saturday’s win, the quarterback battle was a major item that was put on display. T.J. Finley won the job, but Robby Ashford saw significant playing time as well. During head coach Bryan Harsin’s weekly press conference on Monday, he shared his thoughts on how well he believes each quarterback performed and even offered insight on how Finley and Ashford factor into this week’s game plan.
Harsin also discussed both the offensive and defensive lines and mentioned how proud he was of left guard Brandon Council for winning Offensive Lineman of the week.
Here is a rundown of everything Harsin said ahead of Saturday’s game with San Jose State at Jordan-Hare Stadium:
Opening statement
“It’s San Jose State week. I thought our guys did a great job yesterday putting Mercer away and learning from that and moving on to the next opponent. Our players of the game against Mercer, on offensive, Tank Bigsby. On defense was Cam Riley, special teams was Jarquez Hunter. Our offensive lineman of the game was Brandon Council and defensive lineman was Colby Wooden. We had a couple of academic guys, Brandan Frazier and Zion Puckett that were recognized yesterday.
From the game, we talked about it afterwards, I thought we did some good things. We did not win the turnover battle. That was one area that we have to improve on. We did run the ball effectively, and then we weren’t very good in the red zone and a couple areas on the defensive side. So, we addressed that in our meetings. We talked about it on the field, and that’s something that we still have to keep emphasizing going into the second week. It’s early in the year. I thought we did some good things.
