6 burning questions for Week 1

Madden NFL 23 ratings for Tennessee Titans’ edge rushers, linebackers

The Tennessee Titans open their 2022 schedule, welcoming in the New York Giants to Nissan Stadium in Week 1. The Titans open as 5.5-point favorites, but that line could certainly move as the week progresses.

These two teams haven’t met since the 2018 season when the Titans went into MetLife Stadium and blanked the Giants 17-0 behind a big day from Derrick Henry. Tennessee’s superstar running back rushed for 170 yards on 33 carries and scored both touchdowns for the visitors.

Oddly enough, the Titans have only lost once to the Giants (2014) since moving to Nashville and never beat them as the Houston Oilers.

Heading into their Week 1 matchup, here are six burning questions to keep tabs on throughout the game.

1. How will the Titans replace Harold Landry?

The Titans were dealt a serious blow to their defensive unit, with outside linebacker Harold Landry presumably lost for the year with a torn ACL.

The Pro-Bowl linebacker had a coming out party last year to the tune of 12 sacks, and he was rewarded with a big-time contract extension during the offseason.

If there’s any positive from all of this, the Titans are incredibly deep along their front seven. Denico Autry was listed as the starter in Landry’s place on the unofficial depth chart in advance of Sunday’s game.

The Titans will likely go with an outside-linebacker-by-committee to replace Landry’s production, with Ola Adeniyi and Rashad Weaver as other likely candidates in the mix for expanded playing time.

2. Can the Titans avoid another Week 1 letdown?

The Titans were admittedly embarrassed at Nissan Stadium in Week 1 last year, falling to the Arizona Cardinals, 38-13. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill was sacked six times, including five from Chandler Jones.

On Sunday, Tennessee is undoubtedly the favorite playing a weaker Giants club. Quarterback Daniel Jones hasn’t lived up to his first-round draft status. However, the Titans have to avoid overlooking New York.

Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney are all players who can hurt the Titans’ defense when they have the ball in their hands.

3. How will the Titans’ wide receiver corps fare?
