PISCATAWAY, N.J. – With the start of the NFL season just a few days away, 17 Scarlet Knights find themselves on NFL rosters to begin the 2022 campaign. The list includes 12 active players, four on practice squads and one on injured reserve. Three rookies – DB Tre Avery (Tennessee), LB Olakunle Fatukasi (Tampa Bay) and RB Isiah Pacheco (Kansas City) – will make their NFL debuts this weekend after making 53-man rosters for their respective squads.

Rookies Making Noise
In addition to Avery, Fatukasi and Pacheco, LB Tyreek Maddox-Williams (Los Angeles) and WR Bo Melton (Seattle) signed with their respective team’s practice squads last week. Melton finished the preseason with seven receptions for 89 yards, while Maddox-Williams totaled six tackles. All five players from the 2021 Rutgers football season who signed deals with NFL programs during the 2022 draft cycle remained on their respective teams heading into the start of the regular season.

All RU backfield for Kansas City
Pacheco is not the only Scarlet Knight who will appear in the backfield for Kansas City this season, as FB Michael Burton is listed as the Chiefs’ lone fullback for the second consecutive year. In 2021, Burton played in 16 regular-season contests and three playoff games, finishing with eight carries for 26 yards and his first career rushing score in a Week 14 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Burton enters his eighth NFL season and second in Kansas City.
