BATON ROUGE – There’s no denying that the Brian Kelly era at LSU football started with a bang, even if it wasn’t the good kind.

Here are five questions in need of answers following the Tigers’ wild 24-23 loss to Florida State on Sunday night in New Orleans.

So … what’s up with Kayshon Boutte and Malik Nabers’ Instagram accounts?

After the loss, Boutte deleted every post from his Instagram page and – perhaps more notably – stripped any mention of LSU from his bio and profile picture. Nabers, who muffed two punts on Sunday, also removed all of his posts but still had LSU football mentioned in his bio and him in a Tigers jersey as a profile photo.

Partially because of the less aggressive nature of his social media purge but mostly due to his perceived unwillingness to transfer away from LSU in the past, Nabers’ actions after the game shouldn’t be viewed as overly worrying. But the same cannot be said for Boutte.

The star wide receiver admitted during the preseason that he seriously entertained the possibility of leaving the Tigers for the transfer portal. And ever since Kelly “threw a shot across his bow” before the start of spring practices, his relationship with his new coach has been under a microscope.

Cooler heads will likely prevail and prevent Boutte from packing his bags for greener pastures. But that doesn’t mean the situation isn’t worth monitoring.

Did QB Jayden Daniels play well enough to keep the starting job?

Yes. Daniels was a big reason as to why LSU even had a chance to win the game.

The Arizona State transfer finished with a 105.5 NFL passer rating despite being pressured on nearly 32% of his dropbacks, according to Pro Football Focus. He was 4-for-6 passing on throws when pressured and had 7.1 rushing yards per attempt.

Daniels didn’t push the ball downfield at all, failing to complete a pass of over 20 yards and only hitting 4-of-8 throws that went more than 10 yards. But, especially in the first half, he didn’t have much time to make those deeper…
