Everyone but the Cowboys win

It was a huge week for NFC East teams in Week 1.

An upset win looked to be the biggest news in the NFC East, but then the NFL Sunday Night game brought news of a huge injury in the division.

 

 

Giants pull surprising upset in Nashville 21-20

Did anyone expect the lowly Giants to go on the road and beat the Titans? Anyone?

As expected the Giants were down 13-0 to a 2021 playoff team and on the road. But unexpected the Giants offense rolled up some BIG numbers:

Saquon Barkley rushed for 164 yards and gained 194 yards from scrimmage.

Daniel Jones completed 17 of 21 attempts (84%). If that wasn’t enough,

Jones connected with receiver Sterling Shepard on a 65-yard touchdown.

Averaging 7.4 yards a rushing attempt, the Giants rushed for 238 yards.

Winning Sunday, the Giants are above .500 for the first time since 2016.

 

Cowboys lose opener 19-3 and QB Dak Prescott for 6-8 weeks

The Cowboys not only lost 19-3 at home to the Buccaneers but also lost Dak Prescott. In the final quarter, Prescott injured his passing hand and reports are he will be out 6-8 weeks.

The Cowboys led the NFL in penalties in 2021, and Sunday they had 10 accepted penalties to open this season.

Cooper Rush (for now) is the starting Cowboys quarterback. In the next six games for Dallas, they host the Bengals, go to the Giants, host the Commanders, travel to the Rams, travel to the Eagles and host the Lions.

Jalen Hurts not only passed for 243 yards but also rushed for 90 yards, 66 of which came after contact.

Miles Sanders only needed 13 rushing attempts to gain 96 yards.

The Eagles continued their 2021 trend of running the ball extremely well, gaining 216 yards on the ground in 39 attempts, averaging 5.5 yards a carry.

A.J. Brown the Eagles’ new addition at wide receiver had a statement game, opening the season with 10 receptions for 155 yards on 13 targets.
