Wow, for such a boring slate on paper, there was a lot more intrigue coming from the Big Ten this week. Of course, there was a huge margin of blowouts that occurred. Everybody knew that was going to happen. When you see opponents the likes of Wagner, Hawaii, and Western Illinois on the schedule, you weren’t going to see an NCAA 14 style ESPN Instant Classic. It seems though that those teams were very smart in choosing a more conservative opponent for the second week of the season.
Four Big Ten teams were upset this weekend, at least judging by my predictions and the general gauge of how they were supposed to play out by the national media beforehand. A top 25 school was bounced out of the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll (welcome to the top 25 Penn State), a head coach was finally fired, and I was made to be a fool on a couple of occasions. Here’s a retrospective look back at my Week 2 Big Ten Predictions.
Rutgers versus Wagner: 66-7

Prediction: Rutgers over Wagner: 52-7
Boy, this was even worse than I thought it would be. Rutgers covered a massive -46.5 point spread with ease, Wagner simply unable to stop the Rutgers rushing attack. The Seahawks also couldn’t get anything going on offense either. Sophomore backup Evan Simon clearly outplayed Gavin Wimsatt in the win, possibly brewing a quarterback competition in Northern New Jersey?
Michigan versus Hawaii: 56-10

Prediction: Michigan Over Hawaii: 62-7
So, the streak of Hawaii failing to cover as a massive points underdog finally came to an end. Congratulations to them. Unfortunately, as predicted, they were no match for the Wolverines.
