Eagles elevate WR Britain Covey and TE Noah Togiai for Monday Night Football vs. Vikings

The Eagles announced two roster moves on Monday ahead of kickoff against the Minnesota Vikings when they elevated wide receiver Britain Covey and tight end Noah Togiai from the practice squad for tonight’s game.

Covey was elevated for last Sunday’s season opener against the Lions as well and made his NFL debut returning two punts for 13 yards.

Special Teams Coordinator Michael Clay was impressed by Covey’s debut.

“He’s cool, calm, and collected. It’s like having a veteran out there. He catches it, gets downhill. He’s very talkative on the sideline with guys on the punt return team, with myself, what he’s seeing right there,” Clay said.

“Going against who I arguably think, I think (Lions punter) Jack Fox is one of the better punters in the league. He was hitting balls up there I’ve never seen before. But he didn’t bat an eye, caught it, was smooth. On that first one he did a great job on the shorter punt to fair catch it, saved us some yards right there, so I thought Britain did a good job in his first action, live action really against some guys, and we’re just going to strive to get better in every aspect we possibly can.”

Covey was signed by the Eagles as a rookie free agent out of Utah, where he was a three-time, first-team All-Pac-12 returner finishing with a school-record 1,092 punt return yards and four touchdowns.

Togiai played 11 snaps on offense in last Sunday’s win over the Lions. It was his sixth career NFL game.

Following Monday night’s game, Covey and Togiai will revert back to the practice squad.
