THE GAME: The Washington football team (3-0) wraps up its season-opening, four-game homestand this Saturday, as Stanford (1-1, 0-1 Pac-12) travels to Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium for the UW’s conference opener. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. and air on FS1 television. The Huskies are 3-0 after a win over then No. 11-Michigan State, which launched the Dawgs into the rankings for the first time this year. UW enters the week ranked No. 18 in the AP top 25 and No. 24 in the coaches’ poll.
 
QUICK HITTERS: UW is 44-44-4 all-time vs. Stanford … through three games, UW QB Michael Penix, Jr., has passed for 10 touchdowns, one shy of the national lead … vs. Michigan State, Penix passed for 397 yards, the eighth-highest single-game total in UW hisotry … the Huskies have scored on 14 of 16 first-half possessions so far this season, with 12 of those 14 going for touchdowns … the Huskies have scored touchdowns on seven of eight first-quarter dries and, overall, have scored on 21 of 32 drives this season … UW has allowed just two sacks this season, and both of those came with the starters out of the game … through three weeks, UW’s offense leads the Pac-12 in pass offense (2nd in FBS), total offense (4th in FBS), first downs (5th in FBS) and third-down conversion percentage (8th in FBS) … UW also leads the conference in rush defense and is second in total defense … six true freshmen have played for the UW this season: DL Jayvon Parker, CB Jayvion Green, PK Grady Green, WR Denzel Boston, S Tristan Dunn & EDGE Lance Holtzclaw … other than the pandemic-shortened 2020 season – when due to cancellations, the entire UW schedule consisted of just four games, all at home – the last time the Huskies opened a season with four consecutive home games was in 1976, when the Dawgs opened vs. Virgina, Colorado, Indiana and Minnesota … the Husky roster includes 31 newcomers in 2022; here’s a breakdown: 20 freshmen, two junior college transfers, and nine four-year college transfers … of the 114 players on the roster, 55 are listed as freshmen (17) or redshirt freshmen (38), with an additional 27 sophomores … that means that 82 of 114 players (72 percent) have three or more years of remaining eligibility entering the 2022 season … UW has 12 players who are in their final year of eligibility in 2022.
