Takeaways from San Francisco’s romp

Takeaways from San Francisco’s romp

The 49ers’ Week 2 win, a 27-7 throttling of the Seattle Seahawks, should’ve been cause for celebration. They bounced back to knock off a division foe that’s been a thorn in their side for a decade, got back to 1-1 and now have a good win under their belt before heading on the road to face Russell Wilson and the Broncos in Week 3. Instead, Trey Lance’s season-ending ankle injury overshadowed all of that on a rainy Santa Clara afternoon.

While the gravity of the Lance injury could have a long-term impact on the 49ers and their young signal caller, it’s also important to zoom in on Sunday and what the victory means for just the 2022 49ers.

The 49ers’ plan of insulating themselves from an injury to their starting quarterback is already in motion. However, there were some very promising flashes and he looked the part of a running back who should eventually have a role for San Francisco. He was powerful and decisive and showed good elusiveness in the open field. Consistency will be key for Davis-Price, but his first game left the door open for more work into Week 3 and beyond.

Takeaway Town

San Francisco’s defense generated two takeaways and their special teams created another to give the 49ers four takeaways through two games. Talanoa Hufanga was involved with the first interception by tipping it up in the air for free safety Tashaun Gipson. The second pick came via Charvarius Ward, who didn’t bite on some trickery by Seattle. Seahawks RB DeeJay Dallas floated up a lollipop in the red zone on a designed pass, and the ball floated nicely…
