One of the selling points of quarterback Mitch Trubisky when it came to the Pittsburgh Steelers was his mobility. Trubisky was the quarterback who was supposed to make the Matt Canada offense work. Two games in the offense isn’t working at all and part of this has to do with Trubisky failing to create a rushing threat at all.
Trubisky spoke to the media on Tuesday and hinted him and the coaches all feel like it might be time for Trubisky to stretch his legs a little and be the dual-threat quarterback the Steelers signed.
Through two games, Trubisky has looked scared. Scared to hold onto the football, scared to stand in and take a hit to make the big throw and scared to break contain and take off.
Trubisky needs to understand there is a rookie behind him in Kenny Pickett who is everything Trubisky is and more in a younger, more athletic package. Experience is what gave Trubisky the edge but he isn’t playing like a guy with any sense of urgency to keep his job. Showing off those wheels this week against the Cleveland Browns would be a great start.
