As hard as it is to believe, we are now a quarter of the way done with the 2022 college football regular season. With all but one of its non-conference matchups out of the way, Alabama will open its SEC schedule this Saturday night when the Vanderbilt Commodores roll into Tuscaloosa. Alabama is off to a 3-0 start while Vandy is an impressive 3-1 in the young season.

Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has already spoken plenty of pleasantries regarding the Commodores this week who is now in year two under Clark Lea’s leadership.

Here are five things every Alabama fan should know about the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Vandy already has more wins than all of 2021

Vanderbilt is off to a 3-1 start here in 2022 after going just 2-10 during the 2021 season. The Commodores are obviously making strides under second-year head coach Clark Lea.

The Commodores have two capable QB’s

Both Mike Wright and AJ Swann are more than capable of leading the Vanderbilt offense. Preparing for both will be a great challenge for Crimson Tide defensive coordinator Pete Golding.

Vandy receiver Will Sheppard is off to a hot start in 2022. Sheppard currently leads the SEC in receptions (23), yards (313), and receiving touchdowns (7).

Vanderbilt offers a balanced offensive attach

Vanderbilt isn’t a one-trick pony on offense. So far the Commodore offense has been extremely balanced. For the season, Vandy has 878 passing yards and 869 rushing yards.
